Training Courses for Volunteers working with children and young people are arranged through the Presbytery Contact, usually twice each year, and are run by volunteer trainers authorised by the Church's Safeguarding Office.
The process for appointing volunteers working with children in any way in Congregations includes an application form and job description, the taking of two references, an interview and a check through Disclosure Scotland on any police or other record which the applicant may have. Disclosure checks are free of charge for volunteers.
Since the new procedures came into effect, no volunteer is allowed to work with children, even in a supervised capacity, until all requirements are complete.
