Mount Everest has been back in the headlines
following the death of Sir Edmund Hillary and his ensuing
state funeral in New Zealand. But so has the land of Nepal and
its human needs to which he devoted great
efforts.
In May 2006 this 'Hindu kingdom of
the Himalayas' was declared a secular state. Last March, after
struggling with restrictions for 30 years, the Nepal Bible
Society gained official registration.
This is a vital
step forward, since the Christian minority has increased to
around three-quarters of a million, and many new
believers need their own Scriptures to grow in
faith.
Against a background of ancient cultural
traditions, the young generation is faced with a range of
competing ideologies. We can help them to be aware of the
Bible and its life-changing message.
Nepali is the
main language in this nation of 29 million, but many others
are spoken, so translation is an integral part of Bible
Society outreach.
Although the nation has severe
economic problems (not least as a result of a 10-year Maoist
rebellion), some people have particular burdens: those that
are ill, in jail or refugees. Plans are in place to share
God’s Word with them.
As a
mountaineer or tourist you could assist Nepal’s economy; but
without even leaving home you can make a spiritual
contribution – click below to donate or for further
information.

 HOW ...

will your church
highlight EASTER - arguably the most distinctively Christian
festival of the year?
It's an opportunity to
not only celebrate the core of our faith, but also communicate
it to the wider community.
In this package we offer you
a possible approach, based round a Scripture leaflet that has
already 'tested positive' in
Australia.
